Dobie Dichos: Friday, November 3, 2023

Dr. Hardin will once again be speaking at Dobie Dichos in the historic community of Oakville, Texas. The annual event (always the first Friday in November) celebrates the life and legacy of folklorist J. Frank Dobie (1888-1964), a proud native of Live Oak County. Texas author W.K. Stratton captured the essence of the event:

Being part of Dobie Dichos was without question a high point in my literary career. There was something at once magical yet very real about gathering with so many good people under a starlit sky in a clearing in the Brush Country to celebrate one of the important voices of Texas literature.

Dr. Hardin will be speaking on Dobie’s unpublished (rather bawdy) “Piss & Vinegar” Collection. He notes, “So, if you find yourself in South Texas, consider throwin’ in. The chili will be well-seasoned, the music spirited, the speakers sprightly, and the fellowship sensational. You could find worse ways to spend a Friday night.”

February 28, 2019

I will be signing copies of my new book, Lust for Glory: An Epic Story of Early Texas and the Sacrifice that Defined a Nation, at the annual meeting of the Texas State Historical Association in Corpus Christi, Texas. I’ll be in the Book Room of the Omni Hotel from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. If you’re in the area, be sure to stop by and visit me at the Texas A&M University Press table.

March 2, 2019

I will be selling and signing copies of my new book, Lust for Glory: An Epic Story of Early Texas and the Sacrifice that Defined a Nation, at the annual meeting of the resurrected Alamo Battlefield Association (ABA). We will gather at Arbor House Suites, 109 Arciniega Street, San Antonio, Texas, 78205. Festivities will begin on Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m.

Note: You must be a dues paid member of the ABA to attend this event.
